The Journey Begins: A Brief Introduction

An introduction to our journey with leukemia.

Hello, my name is Mike. Thank you for visiting my blog. I am first and foremost a child of God. I am also a husband to Sarah, dad to four beautiful children, and pastor of First Baptist Church in Bay City, MI among other things.

On Thursday, January 30th, 2025, my family's world turned upside down. It was on that day that a doctor confirmed that our oldest son Michael had leukemia. This blog is my attempt to record the events, experiences, thoughts, emotions and conversations of what will be approximately a two-and-a-half-year journey of treating Michael's leukemia...if everything goes according to plan.

My goals with this blog are two-fold. First, I want to be able to look back at this period of our lives and REMEMBER. I have never had much of a memory for details. And so my plan is to record the details in black and white so that I will have a written record of what took place. Second, I hope to point others to GRACE OF GOD. In 2 Corinthians 12:9 God tells the Apostle Paul, "My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness." My sincere hope is that as this journey unfolds, this blog will become a written record of God's grace made manifest in our weakness.

I am not a grammarian. So please be patient with my slaughtering of the English language if and when I do so. I have not yet figured out how to allow comments. But if or when they become available, please refrain from sharing unsolicited medical advice or engaging in debate about medical treatments. My genuine hope is that God would be glorified through this blog, and that it would be a blessing to all who read.
